As an avid watcher of consumer behaviour from year to year, one trend or buying habit shift I’m increasingly conscious of is more consumers buying more and more last-minute.
Now… I completely understand why. In the world of Amazon, Uber, one-touch purchasing on your smartphone, busy busy lives and economic/political uncertainty this trend is inevitable right? Maybe.
For the fast retailers, encouraging a higher purchasing turnover is great, more orders and faster deliveries makes space for even more orders. For operators like @Kings Active Foundation though increasingly later purchasing of our services makes it far harder to plan, train and deliver the safest, most enjoyable service we possibly can.
We’re not in the business of widgets, items which can be kept on a shelf and shipped, we’re in the business of finding great people from Aberdeen to Cornwall, training and equipping them, sometimes we need to book transport and accommodation. Sometimes we need to arrange security clearance weeks in advance for our Armed Forces locations, DBS, PVG, references, right to work checks, ID verification. Caring for children and young people is a serious business! Really the MOST serious of businesses.
Money, funds to sustain our charity is important but the priority is safety, quality and preparation and at present the ‘market’ is leaving less and less space for that.
So rather accepting this trend and making all of the accommodations on our side, maybe those of us who are trustedto care for children should be more vocal to parents and carers. Asking them to consider making their purchases or bookings earlier and explaining why, because it helps us to be as safe as possible and to deliver the highest possible quality of experience for your child! We’re (at Kings Camps at least) happy to take a small deposit, spread the cost across months and months, discuss subsidies if cost is a barrier and remain super flexible for any changes which may happen across the year.
But if you are thinking of booking at Kings, do let us know. It’ll help us to be as good as your children deserve.
