Our coaches – we call them Red Tops – deliver high quality sports sessions designed to get children and young people active, having fun and learning together. To become a Red Top, you’ll need to possess energy, passion and a commitment to child development. We call this The Kings Factor.

We’re looking for high energy individuals who can demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • At least 18 years old
  • At least 6 months’ consecutive experience working with 5 – 17 years old
  • At least 12 months’ experience delivering Swimming teaching or coaching
  • A willingness to liaise with parents, delivering high quality customer service
  • A real team player who’s happy to rotate duties and form positive relationships
  • At time things change, so you’ll need to be flexible, with a willingness to adapt
  • Leadership skills with a vibrant and confident personality
  • Possess and able to document ASA Level 2 Teaching Aquatics or the STA Level 2 Certificate in Swimming Teaching
  • Possess a current Lifeguard qualification in one of the following: National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ), National Rescue Award for Swimming Teacher and Coaches (NRASTC) or STA Safety Award for Teachers Qualification

Child safety is our number one priority, so swim coaches need to ensure that the welfare of children is paramount at all times, ensuring all individuals follow the Kings Camp’s Swimming Policy, as well as the venue’s Normal Operating Procedure and Emergency Action Plan, applying them comprehensively.
Our programmes group children by age (typically 5–7, 8-10 and 11-17), so swim coaches should be able to adapt sessions for varying ability levels. Each session will last between 30-60 minutes.

The role will also involve conducting in depth risk assessments, taking action to minimise risks, monitoring conditions, testing child ability levels, overseeing the safe use of equipment, promptly recording incidents and supporting the Site Manager in the safe practice of changing facilities.

Child numbers, sessions and pool availability will vary, however we typically run sessions between 9.30am and 15.30pm, Monday to Friday.
We also have the odd pre-camp training date which may fall on a weekend (but we’ll let you know dates in advance).
We pay above the National average hourly wage plus additional accrued holiday pay.

We’re committed to safer recruitment¬†

The Kings Active Foundation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Safer recruitment is central to the way we work and all staff and volunteers are expected to share our commitment to safeguarding, always creating an environment where young people feel safe and can thrive.

Staff selection process includes:

  • An interview (approx 40 minutes), via video call, which covers suitability, experience, skills, attitudes as well as the opportunity to showcase an activity session plan
  • If successful at interview, we will speak to at least 2 professional references from your work history
  • Once offered a position, this will subject to satisfactory enhanced disclosure with barred list check (or equivalent for Scottish Residents)

Ongoing training and performance evaluations will feature in the role, with structured support from your Site Manager and performance targets communicated. High performing coaches will be entered onto our staff development programme, with the aim of securing a future promotion (we actively seek to promote from within) and a priority contract for the following seasons!
